This tray puts a defined home under the monitor for the things that otherwise end up stacked on the desk. It holds a laptop up to 16 inches, a tablet, or a stack of letter and A4 documents, which means the surface in front of the keyboard stays empty instead of becoming the default parking spot for whatever was last used.
The shell is matte powder coated steel, not plastic, so a 4.6 pound frame carries a loaded laptop without flexing or sagging at the open edge. The interior is lined with vegan felt on every contact face, which is what keeps an aluminium laptop body from picking up scratches each time it slides in and out. The finish is jet black and matte, so it disappears into the shadow under a stand rather than catching light.
Both sides are left open by design. Charging cables run straight through the tray instead of looping around it, so a laptop can stay plugged in while it is stored, and the cable does not have to be pulled free every time the device comes out.
